So you have found many people who can do your party, you will have found the person who got a some equipment from a car boot sale and thought they could make some money.  People who have downloaded songs off the net and thought they would have a go.  There are some that have been running for ages and are really good at what they do.  The problem is, how do you know.  Some can give you all the talk on the phone.  You have to work out who is telling the truth and who is trying to just get your money.  With us we have appeared on TV, heard on Radio and worked with Celebs so that give us a head start.  Below are some questions and answers and whilst there is a lot to read we do hope we have covered as much as we can but please feel free to contact us if there is anything else you need to know.  Your question will no doubt end up on this list.  We want us all to be happy with this booking.

If you have already made up your mind to book us then you do not really need to read anything below.  The information from here onwards is for people who either have not booked a disco/karaoke disco before or you have got a little bit lost with the amount of DJ’s out there.  It is a big decision on your part as you have a lot of people at your event to let down should it go wrong.  We take your event seriously and treat you as we would like to be treated ourselves.  When you book us, we do not let you down.  We ask enough questions to make sure we know exactly what you require to make your event go well.  By answering our questions we can give you an accurate quote  as long as you have not missed out information like the event has 200 stairs and no lift (or something equivalent) then what we quote is what you pay.  We have highlighted the questions in green and if it is something that does not interest you then you can move on.

Q.  We actually want songs from Genre’s that are not listed above?

The question would be how many.  We can get the odd tracks here and there and sort it our but if you wanted a complete night of a genre we do not cater for you have two choices.  The first would be to supply the tracks in advance as they need to go on computer and a play list.  The other options would unfortunately be for you to source a DJ with the Genre’s required and book them.  Our goal is satisfaction over money.  Yes we would love to work for you but at the end of the night we want you to say something on the lines of “we are so glad we booked them”.  Your happiness is important to us.

Q. We have our favourite versions of karaoke tracks, can we find out which ones you have?

Our books are coded with our manufacturer code so you know who produced the song when looking in the book.  They are pretty obvious sun=sunfly pio=pioneer etc..  There is a more detailed breakdown in the members area.    In the books you will see that the index number is split up into sections.  The first three letters tell you the manufacturer of the track so you know which version it is.  In the books we’ve displayed the one we think is the best.  Ask if you have another preference.

Q.  Your website does not have animation and amazing graphics.  Would it not be better for me to go to the one with the more professional website.  Why is yours more basic?

If you were booking a web designer then…. Yes….Our website is there for information.  To have an all singing all dancing site it would need a lot of money to pay professionals.  So we decided to learn the basics of web design and create out own.  It does the job and we are happy about that.  It also means I am not passing the cost of a web designer onto the people booking the karaoke.  This also means more money to spend on things that are more important like new songs, fantastic equipment and any repair work to keep the karaoke at it’s best.  With the growing trend of tablets taking over PC’s I have to make sure that the site is compatible with all types of browser.

Q.  Is your equipment safe and has it been Pat Tested?

Even though pat testing is a non legal requirement, some organisations require pat testing to be done every year (with karaoke and disco equipment).  Pat testing can be costly as testers charge you per item (including cables).  We are fully trained and competent for pat testing.  This means once again it is something that we do not need to pass over to your bill as an expense and we also like to pat test our equipment on more of a regular basis.  Part of pat testing is also on a visual basis too.  This is ideas because….

1)             The equipment works and does what it should

2)             The equipment is safe for all at the event.

3)             There are no loose or bare wires, broken casing etc.

So pat testing means it is safe and looks good.

As we are qualified and do our own pat testing we actually check it more regular than others as there is no cost to us where others would have to pay a large amount.  We also perform a visual check on the equipment between each event.  We perform frequent pat tests throughout the year (our equipment requires only one) to make sure that it is always up to top condition.  Someone could have a pat test done and a cable breaks the following day.  For a year this cable is dangerous.  Anything that is not up to regulations is removed from use.   We also take great care in looking after our equipment.  It is not bashed about in a van and when transported in and out of venues it is looked after to keep it fully working, safe and to keep it looking nice.

Q.  Is your sound good quality as some karaoke’s can sound muffled?

Where did I put my trumpet….???? There is is… Phhhhhhhhrrrrrrrrrrrrttt…  In a nutshell…. Yes.  We are very proud with our sound.  We have different speakers for different rooms and environments.  All sound frequencies are covered.  We have digital microphones, digital mixer, digital speakers and WE KNOW HOW TO USE THEM.  An artist can have a really good set of brushes and paints.  What use if they not have the skill to get the best out of them.  You will still get something but no way near as good as you could.  Don’t take our word for it…. Come along and listen to one of our public performances and if it is a karaoke, maybe even give us a song.  Karaoke singers are generally amateurs who want a sing song.  Rarely do we get professionals on the karaoke.  So with us the singers get the studio feel as we alter the settings on the mixer to make each person to sound the best.  A good singer can sound bad on the wrong settings.  Remember, we were once karaoke singers so we know what it is like knowing you could sound better but the karaoke let you down.

Q.  How does your sound compare with other karaoke’s?

Obviously we can not comment on every karaoke as that would be impossible.  However if you take a brand new set of digital professional microphones plugged into a digital mixer and then you get to hear it through a state of the art Bose Sound System then all I can say is . . . . .  A fantastic sound…. (singer dependant :-)  We also have another set of speakers that are also amazing.  We bring the best speakers with us for the room we are in.  As we constantly monitor the sound and adjust it when needed we do get a far superior sound to people who do not listen and adjust the songs accordingly.

Q.  I have my own karaoke disks, can you play them?

Yes we can, when you get to the event let us know the song is on your own disk so we can make sure we can play it rather then wait until you come up.

Q.  What is your experience in the event of something goes wrong?

If things never broke down there would be no R.A.C, no AA etc.  These are services as breakdowns are never obvious.  Those drivers who look after their vehicles will probably not see these services as much.  Our equipment is looked after, serviced regular and respected.  So there is a very slim chance of breakdown.  However in the slim event that there was a breakdown then we can sort it out straight away as there are backups that we use and ways to sort problems.  As we are trained in audio visual we do not just know how to set it up, we know how it works, why it works and what to do to rectify any problems.  We can also use our knowledge to make the event far more professional.  There is not an emergency service for breakdowns when doing a disco.  We do actually run a service for other DJ’s in the event of a breakdown we usually go out to DJ’s in trouble and help them.  Rather then book the DJ with the equipment that breaks down, book us with the equipment that works as it is better then waiting for us to come and bail out your DJ if they are on our system.

Q.  What sort of experience have you got working with audio? (If you click any links you will need your back button in order to return to our site)

Some of our experience was running the sound and visual at Lichfield Cathedral at the concerts, the organ recitals and also the Lichfield Festival.  Also when the National Memorial in Alrewas was opened we were jointly responsible for the audio and visual.  You can even see Russ in the background on Sky News when the TV crews were there (not the nicest of shots of him lol).  Helped with the BBC with outside broadcasts, in AV work have also been involved with the power and screens for the motor racing at race circuits.  Have also done work with Stars In Their Eyes.  We have also worked with some well known TV personalities like John Culshaw, Don Maclean, Arthur Bostrom please see our reviews in AV section for Don and Arthur’s comments, Janice Connolly , Caprice,  Esther Ranson, Ben Hanlin and more from the TV world and a few from Radio world too including Les Ross, Graham Torrington, Ian Wood, On air with Malcolm Boydon, Frank Stewart RIP friend .  We recently did the outside sound for Stephen Sutton at Lichfield Cathedral and also supplying a sound feed to all TV and Radio Networks.  We have had a lot of trust with many important events and had a lot of experience.  So you do have nothing to worry about.  We have also worked with Aston Villa football Players

Q. Does the digital switch over have any effects on karaoke?

Wow it is ages since this was in the news.  The digital switch over and all the old analog channels going.  The change over will effect a majority of people using radio microphones.  There are  many radio microphones that are no longer allowed to be used (illegal).  Google it if you really want to know why.  Anyone using an old microphone in the frequency band is subject to interference which is what your singers do not want.  A microphone going on and off will put off singers.  We use microphones that are on a frequency that is legal to use.  We also use digital microphones with proven 4th generation wireless transmitter technology. Designed to work together with superior sound quality. We have upgraded our microphones so there will be no problem and nothing to worry about.  We also carry wired microphones as a backup too juuuuuuust in case.  So do not worry.  It is all taken care of.

Q.  Can I customise my show or is it just standard?

Anyone who would not allow you to customise your show should not be working and you should run a mile from them.  With us you will be given a standard option where we will turn up and do the event by working the room.  We will get a rough idea from experience what songs will go down well.  Or if you really want to you can customise it more to your taste right down to what colour socks if you have a preference on socks.  You choose what songs you want, when you want them played, what songs not to play, what you want us dressed in, if you want lights or not.  Rather then list it all here, you can pretty much customise just about everything.  We listen and deliver what you want where possible.

Q.  How do I get a digital copy of the karaoke book?

We try to make it easy for you..  You can get a song list off this website on your device.  You can scan a ticket with a QR code reader, you can use NFC to scan the side of a book, you can ask us to e-mail you a copy, you can have one sent to you by bluetooth.  Then when you have spare time at home or elsewhere why not read through a page or two.  Make a note of what songs you like.  There are other options you can use too for listing your songs.  Regular users of the karaoke who we know have further options.  By reading the books at home you can make a list of the songs you like.  It will save your time at a venue.  Ask us for details.

REMEMBER IF YOU HAVE ANY OF YOUR OWN QUESTIONS PLEASE ASK..

Q.  (Karaoke/Disco) How long have you been doing entertainment and what experience have you got.

From an early age at school I was on the sound at the school productions.  We had professional mixers and sound systems.  We did concerts, shows, speeches etc.  I was part of the main sound crew and on some occasions I was the director of sound.  It was up to me to get the best sound out of people from one person to a complete multi microphone choir.  Since then I’ve been part of sound systems for large events, helped set up a legal radio community radio station and also having my own show.  I have worked with the BBC with outdoor events, worked at an audio visual company where I installed and operated the audio visual equipment for many people including some well known people.  Our audio/visual company has been running for over 20 years being a full time job.  This means we care for your needs.  Without you our company can not go on.  Not only do we do Disco’s and Karaoke’s we have done corporate events and large events.  We have a great deal of experience that you will benefit from.

Please remember that there is no commitment until all of us agree to go ahead.

Please follow these steps.

1  FIRST OF ALL READ BELOW AND DECIDE IF WE ARE THE PEEPS THAT YOU WANT TO DO YOUR PARTY.

2 If we have not already told you we are free to do your event please click here to check our availability to do your event.

3  If we have told you we are free and can do our event you can either give us details over the phone or e-mail or you can click here and add more details in for accurate quote.

Q.             What is the quality of the sound system you have, how do you make it sound good.

We use a full digital mixer which has a lot of controls to be able to make the disco and/or people sound as good as possible.  It is no good having a great system if you do not know how to use it.  When we are running the show I do not leave the mixer and will stay with it and adjust it when needed to avoid a bad sound.  People can be unpredictable and walk in front of a speaker or cup the mic which instantly gives feedback (that nasty whistling sound) or the deep humming.  We are constantly monitoring the sound quality and the position of the singers to avoid any sound problems.  This means we can rectify any unexpected noise problems straight away.  You will find there are hundreds of people doing karaoke.  There are the few who know the equipment, know how to use it, know how to make the singers sound good.  Singers are always attracted to a karaoke they sound good at. Why wouldn’t they.  With the disco we also manage the songs so there is the correct amount of Bass and tops.  We know how sound waves travel and a how an incorrectly placed speaker will destroy the sound.  So you know that you are going to get the best sound possible.

Q.             What songs do you have on the karaoke?

RJ’s Karaoke has been running for over 20 years and we have been building up the song lists all that time adding songs all of the time.  We do get a lot of comments on the amount of songs we have.    All of our tracks are legal and purchased.  So there are no problems of officials coming to the venue disrupting it with licencing issues.  On the slim chance we do not have a song we have the system to be able to purchase a song live online.  We order, pay and download in approx five minutes or so.  So you can be sure to know that the music we play is legal to play at your event/venue

Q.  What sort of songs do you have in disco collection?

We are what you would call a traditional disco.  We play what is requested from our collection from the 60’s 70’s 80’s 90’s 2000’s and 2010’s with some requested party dances etc.  The above song genre’s are what to expect.   We are in the process of updating the song list which you are more then welcome to look at if you like.

Q.             Is it easy for us to find a song from the list?

We have tried to make it as easy as possible.  On the left side of the page the songs are in song order.  The right hand side they are in artist order in case you can not remember the title but know the artist.  The duets have a separate section and all the added new songs are at the back of the books.

Q.             Do you have a song list for the karaoke?

Yes we have a song list both digital and physical.  Feel free to have a look at the list HERE which we are updating on a regular basis.  There are few karaoke companies that have song books at a venue in a physical format.  We bring books along with us for people to read.  Alternatively you can also download a more up to date song book on your mobile device.

Q.  Do you hold public liability insurance?

Yes we are covered for up to £10,000,000.00 public liability insurance.  £10,000,000.00 Employers liability.

Q.  Do you have all the licences for the software you use?

Yes all of the software we use is paid for and licensed to us and only us.  So there is no implications of any legal problems that could result in a problem at your event.

Q.  Do you use a computer or CD’s?

We use a computer for the main show as we can change tracks very quick and can do a better show when people ask for a certain genre.  We have a 2nd computer system as a back up and then we have CD’s in case there is a very unexpected problem (which we can not imagine at the moment)

Q.  Do you have a produb licence?

There are still a lot of people complaining about this licence.  At the time of typing this we are aware that only the UK, Ireland and Malta have a law where you can not shift change the media from which music is purchased and then played from.  In the digital age when arguably the very act of letting your iTunes resample digital tunes down to 128kbps to squeeze more of them onto your iPod is also a format change.  So in case things change and we do not update our website you are better to visit the official PRS FOR MUSIC website that deals with the music licences  you can find it HERE but remember to use your back button to return here.  On this site you can also check to see if your DJ/KJ has a licence.  There are different stories to see if an owner to a venue can get in trouble for a DJ or KJ not having a licence so it is best to be on the safe side and choose someone who has (this also helps you pick the serious DJ’s from the ones who thought they would “give it a go with their sister and brothers CD collection”.  Keep an eye on this one.  The law may change and DJ’s may not have to spend £212.17 + vat for every 5000 tracks (this cost is ON TOP of originally purchasing the music).

Q.  I have quite a low voice that booms out on karaoke, is there anything you can do?

We alter the sound on the system digitally for each person who sings and also for each song.  As soon as we hear you sing we will then be able to alter the system to make you sound your best.  However if you are aware that your voice booms on other peoples karaoke just let us know when you come up and we can compensate a little in advance until we can hear your voice and alter it more appropriate.

Q.  I could not even carry a tune in a bucket, can I sing?

There are karaoke’s out there who only allow good singers to sing.  This is something that we would never consider doing as we just want people to take part.  If you are happy to get up on the karaoke we are happy to have you sing on it.  We also do not ridicule or make fun of people who are not good singers.  The idea of karaoke is getting up and having a go and we appreciate any singer who has a go.  So please, regardless of your singing quality, have a go, that is what we are there for.  If you are a regular to our karaoke we will store your settings into the digital mixer so you will sound your best each time you get up.  You are only not allowed on the karaoke if you are known to cause any upset in any way.

Q.  Can you change the key of the song.?

Yes we can adjust the key from 0% to 1200% in 5% steps.

0=Normal

100% = 1 semitone (key)

200% = 2 semitones (2 keys)

All the way up to 1200 which is 12 semitones.   This means we can even go up by a bit of a key without distorting the sound of the song.

If you want to keep a note of what key you sing songs in why don’t you ask us for a sheet to fill in.  For a small charge to cover costs we can print it onto a plastic card (credit card size) for you to carry with you.

Q.  Do you have lights?

For karaoke we will bring a few lights to give a nice look.  For disco’s we have a light set we bring out which is great for your event.  You can (if you wish) do an upgrade then just look at the upgrade page and you can add extra lights to your event.  However if you want to pay for a larger light system then let us know.  We have a variety of lights.  To have a look at what lights are available ask us to see our lights page (which we are working on)  Our karaoke youtube channel is here where you can see some older videos of the lights.  This will be updated as soon as we can.

Q.  Do you have a smoke machine?

Yes as an optional extra we do have smoke.  We have different power smoke machines as one is very powerful for large rooms and one is smaller.  There is also the option of a haze machine coming soon.  We can not just use one though.  We will have to speak to the venue owner to gain permission.  Smoke machines can set off fire alarms.  If there is a dialler to the emergency services and it is a false alarm there may be a fine.

Q.  What happens with my personal information when I join a mailing list?

We sell it to the highest bidder…… No of course we do not.  Your personal details are yours and what you share with us stays with us.  We personally hate cold calls and scream when the phone rings with some sort of sales pitch because someone somewhere has shared our information.  We know how annoying it is.  Your personal information is safe and will never be given to any third party.  At the end of the day you signed up to hear from us and not other people.  I am sure that if you want to hear from other people then you will give them your details yourself.  We are a firm believer of opt in and opt out.  If you do not opt in you will get nothing.  You can opt out at any time you like should you get sick of us.  We only want your details so we can let you know what is going on and we will stop telling you if you ask us to (please don’t, we like staying in touch).   If someone asks for your details and needs to talk to you then no matter what the urgency is we will ask THEM for their details to pass to you.  Only the police have the right for data.  On all of our e-mails there is a part at the bottom to stop receiving e-mails.  We ask that if you no longer want to hear from us then click this link or ask us.  Please do not click spam as spam will not work straight away and also causes problems..  The unsubscribe button works immediate.

Q. Can we hire a famous person to host the show?

Yes of course, just let us know who you are after and we will contact them and see their availability and get you a price.

Q.  Are there any special offers available?  Are they any loyalty promotions?

We do have special offers at times.  Some are randomly from our members list of bookings.  Others we give a discount if there has been a venue we have worked at where there were no problems and we felt safe and also visitors feel safe too.  There is a loyalty scheme where members get points when booking us.  The special offers are only available to those on our mailing list as we rarely contact people direct.  If you are not on the mailing list then there is no way you would know about the offer.  Offers are on a first come first serve basis.  We are strict on who joins which mailing list.  Obviously we have the right to choose where we wish to work and where we would not return to.  So should there have been trouble at your venue or event you can understand that we would not allow you on the mailing list.  If your venue went very well then you may be even give loyalty points which gives you a better chance at free offers.  Offers can be given and taken away without reason or notice (just to cover us).  If you cancel bookings then this could also lose your loyalty status.  Please ask for details and terms.

Q.  I am not totally sure what I need to do and what things I should ask for when booking.  What do I do?

You can tell us to do the usual where we will sort it all out or you can fill in an online questionnaire to guide and help you and also make sure that we know everything we need to know.  What you are not sure about you can leave blank and we can discuss this later.  Obviously the more you fill in the more we can personalise your karaoke to suit your needs more and give you an accurate quote.  If you have any problems with this please do get in touch.  The questions may appear a little informal but actually it is just an introduction to your needs.  We can read this and then we can call you and discuss exactly what you want.  The form does save us asking basic information like the date, the time, the location and a few other bits.  Then when we call you we all get a rough idea of what is needed.  This makes it easier and people have commented on how easy it was to book.

Q.  What sort of music do you play?

We play what is asked of or if nothing stated or what we think suits the room and we do play a large range of genre’s including the section “Wow I have not heard that in ages”.  Unfortunately we prefer not to play abusive songs or songs with loads of swearing in it if you think we will be asked for this sort of music we should know as there is a high chance we would not choose to work your event.  If you have not told us about this please do not be offended if we do not play x rated songs.  It always depends on the audience.  If a singer does put a karaoke song in to sing then that is their responsibility as we can not listen to tens of thousands of songs to see what songs contain swearing.  We have banned a couple of songs.  However on the disco side of things we do like to keep it as clean as possible.

Q.  Do you swear on the mic?

No this does not give a professional show.  We keep it clean and have a laugh with people.

Q.  Do you drink alcohol when working?

No we are happy drinking soft drinks.  We are professional in what we do.

Thank You.

Q.  Is karaoke and disco the only thing you do?

We started with Disco’s and then added Karaoke which is the main thing we do and have done since about 1994.  However we also do other things now and again including a very good version of bingo.  For a list of the extras just ask.  With our new speakers and microphones we also do a lot of AV work for conferences, after dinner speakers and other events too.

Please feel free to get in touch with us and ask any questions.  We will help you and advise you on anything you need to know.  You only have to ask.  So please ask.  We can not help if you do not ask.  No good after the event saying you wish you had booked us.  Speak to us without a commitment.

Thanks for reading.

Please feel free to ask anything.

Thank You.
